Charles Ralph Cummings, Sr.
husband of Mildred Etta Marshall who was previously married to Leonard Henry Strickert, son of Herman Frederich Charles, son of Friedrich Wilhelm, son of Johann and Christina Strickert.

Charles Ralph Cummings Sr., 80, of Dodge City, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the Sterling House in Dodge City.

He was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Highland County, Ohio, the son of Leslie Ferris and Lula (Weaver) Cummings.

In May 1937, he married Mary Olive (Persinger) Moore at New Vienna, Ohio. They moved to McAllen, Texas, where they lived until moving to Garden City in the mid-1960s. She preceded him in death, as did a brother and two sisters. A farmer, Mr. Cummings enjoyed farming and construction work. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the Garden City Sunrisers Kiwanis.

In 1973, he married Mildred E. Strickert. She survives.

Other survivors are two sons, Charles R. Cummings, Blanco, Texas, and William D. "Bill" Cummings, Garden City; a daughter, Joyce Ann Ward, Garden City; a brother, Paul E. Cummings, Hillsboro, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters; 11 stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

Mr. Cummings donated his body to the Health Science Center at the University of Kansas.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Dodge City. Burial will take place later. Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Prairie, P.O. Box 1294, Dodge City, KS 67801.
