The village of Hardenbeck, just south of Weggun, is the home of the Hoppenrath family.

There are a number of significant connections between the Strickert family and the Hoppenraths.

1.  Christine Wilhelmine Sophie Strickert (born Feb. 10, 1832), the only daughter of Johann and Christina Strickert, married a Hoppenrath from Hardenbeck.   According to Weggun Church records, on Dec. 16, 1853 in Weggun she married Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Hoppenrath, born March 15, 1827.  He was the son of Michael Hoppenrath and Dorothy Sophie Goetsch of Hardenbeck.  Presumably they settled in Hardenbeck and did not travel to America with Johann and Christina in 1856.  The Hardenbeck Church records list the death of Michael Hoppenrath on 28 May 1850 at the age of 59 years and one month, leaving Dorothy Goetsch as a widow.  Likely Wilhelmine and Carl were expected to stay behind in Germany to care for his mother.

Prior to the marriage, Wilhelmine had a daughter Friederike Albertine Wilhelmine Strickert, born January 29, 1852 (listed in Weggun church records without a father).

Carl and Wilhelmine also had three children after their marriage:
           * Wilhelmine Aug. Fried. Hoppenrath, born 5 April 1855;
           * Maria A.W. Hoppenrath, born 14 (24) July 1857;
           * Carl Hoppenrath, born 13 November 1860
However, there were no listings for their births in the church records either at Hardenbeck or at Weggun.

On 23 April, 1862, Carl Hoppenrath applied for an exit permit from Boitzenberg for six persons.  They did not immigrate to Canada, but instead settled in Chicago.

According to the church records of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chicago, Friederike Albertine Wilhelmine Strickert was confirmed in 1865.

See http://www.karensgen.com/buch/illinois/chicago/firstimmanuel/conf1855-1865.php

Her siblings were also confirmed there:
               Wilhelmine Aug. Fried. Hoppenrath was confirmed in 1869;
               Maria A. W. Hoppenrath was confirmed in 1871;
               Carl Hoppenrath was confirmed 29 March 1874.
See the "Family Tree" page for descendents of Christine Wilhelmine Strickert Hoppenrath.

2.  Other listings from Hardenbeck church records include:
      28 May, 1850: death of Michael Hoppenrath age 59 years and one month. Leaving as widow Sophie Dorothy Goesch.
       3 April 1867: there is a death record for another Michael Friedrich Hoppenrath, age 75 years, 9 months, 17 days. How he is related to the above Michael Hoppenrath is unclear. They were both born about 1791-1792]
      15 Dec. 1856, there is listed a marriage for Karl Martin Friedrich Hoppenrath age 25 ¾ (born 1831), son of Michael Hoppenrath –Karl was married to Esther Charlotte Wilhelmine Loriau (sp?) of Berkholz.
      11 April 1851, birth of Friedricke Wilhelmine Henriette Hoppenrath, daughter of Friedrich Hoppenrath and Wilhelmine Sprung.
      28 June 1853, birth of Wilhelm Friedrich Hoppenrath (same parents).
       10 Dec. 1855 death of a Christian Michael Friedrich Hoppenrath age 38

3. Christian Hoppenrath of Wichmannsdorf (Christina Feuerhak Strickert's home village) for exit papers from Germany for five persons on 15 March 1856, one week after Johann Strickert.

4. There was a Hoppenrath farm in Canada very close to the Strickert farm.  There are also listed 14 Hoppenrath graves at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Logan Township.

Dorothea Feuerhak Hoppenrath from Wichmannsdorf was buried next to Christina Strickert.  Likely they were sisters.  Dorothea was born about 1800 and died about 1890.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jlongeuay/Longeuaygene/dat50.html#1  shows that Wilhelm Hoppenrath (born 1849-1850) and Wilhelmine Hoppenrath (born 1854) are listed as the children of Ernst Hoppenrath (born 1789) and Dorothea Feuerhak (born 1800).  It may be that Christian Hoppenrath listed in # 3 above was another son or related in another way since he did apply for five persons.

Wilhelmine is listed as a witness at the marriage of Christian Strickert in 1872.
Wilhelm is listed as a witness at Fredrich Strickert's third marriage in 1873.

Wilhelm and Wilhelmine (to William Bauer) were married in a double ceremony on 9 April 1874.

In the 1881 census, the Bauers are listed with 3 children living on a farm very close to the Strickert farm.

5. Augusta Grederica Germann, the first wife of Fredrich Strickert, was born in Hardenbeck 23 August 1839.

6. In 1879 Wilhelm Hoppenroth immigrated to Logan Township.  He and his wife are listed on the gravestone above.
    In the 1881 Census, they are listed as William Hoppinrath (b. 1850) and Elizabeth (b. 1854) with two children:
    Frederick (b. 1877) and Wilhelmina (b. 1878).
