Mary Elizabeth Boyd Strickert
[wife of Walter F. Strickert, son of Henry J. Strickert, son of Friedrich Wilhelm Strickert, son of Johann and Christina Strickert}

Mary Elizabeth Boyd  Strickert was born July 1, 1921 in Mayen, Germany.

Her father, Alexander H. Boyd, was career U.S. Army and was stationed for three years in Mayen, Germany (in the Rhineland west of Koblenz) with the occupation army following World War I.  Her mother, Elizabeth Ternes, was from the village of Holzfeld overlooking the Rhine River.  Following Alexander's deployment to the states, to Nashville, TN, Mary was raised in Germany by Elizabeth until 1925, when they immigrated and were reunited with Alexander, settling in Knoxville, Tennesee.  She was raised an only child.

Following the death of both her parents in the late 1930s, Mary Boyd, worked as a secretary.  She met her future husband Walter F. Strickert, while he was completing a two-year pastoral internship at First Lutheran Church in Knoxville.  They married in Knoxville on April 7, 1942.
 


The couple lived in several locations were Walter Strickert served as congregational pastor including El Dorado, AR; Chillecothe, MO; Sedalia, MO, and St. Louis (Chesterfield, MO), retiring in 1986.  During this time Mary worked both as a housewife and as a secretary, including 15 years of Monsanto headquarters in St. Louis.  The couple enjoyed to travel.



They had five children: Rick (Jane) and two daughters, Austin, Texas; Fred (Gloria) and three children, Waverly, IA; Dorothea (Ralph Dehne, deceased) and three children, Pasadena Hills, MO; Tammy (Kevin Humphreys) and two children, Virginia Beach, VA; and David (Claudia) and three daughters, Charlotte, NC.

Mary Strickert died in her sleep at home on Oct. 27, 1988.  Her funeral was at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Olivette, Mo with burial at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery, Affton, Missouri.
