Melvin L. Stoppel husband of Margaret Stoppel, daughter of Edgar Carl Strickert, son of Friedrich Wilhelm Strickert, son of Johan and Christina Strickert.
Scott City -- Melvin L. Stoppel, 84, died July 22, 2004, at Pikes Peak Hospice Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Ellsworth County, the son of Chris and Lucy Fry Stoppel. In 1930, he moved to farm in Scott City, where he was a resident the rest of his life. June 23, 1940, he married Margaret Stickert in Dighton.
He was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City. He is survived by his wife; a son, Darrel L. Stoppel, Lurgen, North Ireland; a daughter, Marcine A. Gorman, Meeker, Okla.; a brother, Duane Stoppel, Scott City; three grandsons; three granddaughters; and 11 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Leon.
Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
