Mrs. Minna Laura Strickert wife of Henry J. Strickert, son of Friedrich Strickert, son of Johann and Christina Strickert

Mrs. Minna Laura Strickert of Jackson died Tuesday (Jan 29, 1980) while visiting in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. Walter (Betty) Ruehrdanz, in Chicago, Ill. She was 89 years old.
Mrs. Strickert, the former Miss Rook, was born Dec. 23, 1890, in Postelan, West Preussen, Germany, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Rook (August was a cabinet maker. Mrs. Rook was the former Bertha Zelz). She was baptized on Jan. 10, 1891, in Lobowitz (or Sobowitz?), West Preussen, Germany by Pastor Hertwig (sponsors: Emilie Mielke and G. Hahn). At the age of 12 [11], she came to America with her mother, four brothers and a sister.
She was confirmed on May 15, 1904 in Bad Axe, Michigan, by the Rev. William F. Mundt.

On June 22, 1915, she was married to the Rev. Henry John Strickert in Bad Axe by the Rev. Mundt. The Rev. Strickert died on March 9 1960.

They resided in Lincoln, Kansas for 11 years, where the Rev. Strickert was pastor of the Shady Bend Lutheran Church. In 1926, the family moved to the Tilsit community, where the Rev. Strickert served as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jackson Route 2 [Tilsit], for 27 years. Upon retirement in 1953, the Strickerts moved to Jackson.

Surviving are five sons, the Rev. Walter Strickert, St. Louis, the Rev. Paul Strickert, Rockwall, Texas, Arnold Strickert, Jackson, Missouri, Roland Strickert, Nashville, Tennessee, and the Rev. Robert Strickert, Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Ruehrdanz, Chicago, Illinois; 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, the Rev. Arthur Strickert in Dearborn, Michigan, on August 9, 1979; her husband Rev. Henry J. Strickert on March 9, 1960; and also four brothers and one sister.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jackson, Mo. since 1953 and also a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Pallbearers were James, Joe, John, David Strickert, Ralph Dehne, and Mark Leimbach.

The body is at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, where friends may call after one o’clock, Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, the body will be taken to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson for funeral service at 10:30, with the Rev. Earl E. Weis, pastor, officiating. Burial is to be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The Henry J. and Minna L. Strickert Scholarship Fund was later established by their children at, Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, Mo. 63105.
